What's in the Box

A medium sized crate arrived at the Larethian home, addressed to the head of the household, it’s shipping label marking it’s origin as Aerie Peak. The children circled the box throughout the day, their curiosity driving them to pepper Niviene with questions to which the priestess would only shrug with a knowing smile.

She set about cooking dinner, taking special care with the dishes, fretting over the results. Everything had to be just right but the cake had fallen when she took it from the oven, the meat was a little over done, and she hadn’t had time to clean up before she heard Braghaman’s footfalls on the front porch.

She took a quick moment to smooth her hair back from her face and pat some color into her cheeks before she whipped her apron off and turned to greet her husband.

She needn’t have bothered for the kids, in their excitement about the still unopened crate, ran to their father, chattering excitedly and dragging him into the room and over to the box. The paladin had little time to spare for his wife as Banny thrust a crowbar into his hands, “You gotta open it dad. Kori’s going crazy not knowing what’s inside.” the boy said, trying to hide his own curiosity in front of his father.

Bragh tosseled the boys hair as he took the crowbar, using it to wrench the lid of the crate. Korissa shreeked with excitement, reaching in to pull out packing straw and toss it on the floor until the content of the box was finally displayed. All three of them peered into the box, their chatter momentarily forgotten as the stared at the items inside.

Slowly, almost reverently The paladin reached in and removed the pieces, carved from oak and ash, the intricate lines of the knotwork swirling along the edges of the board, each piece painstakingly fashioned to fit in smaller hands though still retain an air of elegance.

Bragh looked up at Niviene questioningly. She shrugged, blushing slightly, “With all the extra time you’ll have at home now I thought maybe you’d like to teach the kids to play.” she paused and smiled warmly, “Happy anniversary commander.”

I loved to play with my own association of the "FedEx" guy bringing you a (supposedly cardboard) box and your spouse handing you a crowbar at the same time :)))

I imagined the crate would be wooden like the ones in game, thus the crowbar.  It’s hard to tell what level of technology exists on Azeroth. On the one hand they have cameras, guns, tanks, planes, and motorcycles while on the other they still use outhouses.

I'd say it's "sentimental" technologies that exist in Azeroth. Creates but not cardboard boxes, tanks - but running on steam, teleportation - but not trough physics but trough magic,  flying but not on planes but on flying beasts... It's all so santimental like from a movie .. or like from the mind of someone from 100-200 to a few thousand years behind in time in their understanding of the world. I guess that caters to the childish part in all of us

But there are planes, have been for ages. And blimps too.

Yes you are right, and still it's the kind of planes that we used in the past. Maybe with jet engines but only 1 or 2 person rides. Nothing like a jumbo jet or even a small passenger plane for 10 people.

Cute! Happy anniversary to them (though I'm late catching up on CD!)
