For as long as Amrieth could remember, she had a deep love for books. Books of any kind, really. But romances always held a special place in her heart. Even as a little girl, she enjoyed the fairy tales of princesses finding their true loves. Something about it was just so magical to her. Her own parents were a product of an arranged marriage and even though it worked well enough for them, it wasn’t something she wanted for herself.
She was in no hurry to get married or even to find love. She always believed that it would find her if it was something that she was meant to have. And even though her mother always said she truly did love her husband, Amri very much didn’t believe that she’d find love in some political arrangement. Besides, she knew her father didn’t have her best interests in mind when choosing a suitor for her. He was after trying to work his way up in the world of nobles. Something that Amri had absolutely zero interest in. Those types of men were not anything that ever appealed to her and she was pretty sure that if she were to be herself around those men, she wouldn’t appeal all that much to them either.
These days, the very minor noble house of Sunsong was defunct, all family aside from Inerris was long gone and the days of trying to get out of those marriage arrangements were far behind her. She missed her mother though. And as she sat there on the bed while Khidell was still fast asleep next to her, that knit bookmark he made her in her hand, she couldn’t help herself from imagining telling her mother all about how it had finally happened for her.
She’d tell her mother all about how she had spotted him there in Court of the Sun in his combat boots, the sunlight in his hair, the way he smiled when she spoke to him. She’d tell her how they continued to spend time together after that, how much he made her laugh, how she couldn’t stop smiling every time she saw him, the way her heart would skip a beat every time he showed up and how it still does. She would tell her how they eventually had their first kiss, how even though they had only known each other for a couple weeks at that point, she had felt like she’d known him for so much longer.
Though there had been men before Kid, she knew for certain now that she never been in love with them. Cared about them, sure but it wasn’t the real thing. She had always suspected that to be the case because before she’d always questioned her own feelings. People had always said that when you’re in love, you just know it. She knew it. There was no questioning her feelings on this one. And it was so much better than any fairy tale she’d ever read.
As she smiled softly to herself, she laid back down on the bed as she leaned in and kissed Khidell’s shoulder then pulled herself close, those soft kisses moved across his body to slowly wake him up. Even though her birthday was over, they had nowhere to be until this evening and she had plans to spend a lazy day with her prince charming.
