Anne was sitting inside the kitchen of her father’s townhome in the mage district just listening to all of the commotion going on outside. She had done her best to keep herself sequestered away from doing much of anything for the past few weeks. Not only was it getting rather difficult to get around, but the talks of war on the horizon kept on flitting into her ears, making her rather nervous.
She was trying her hardest to keep calm so that this wouldn’t be too detrimental to herself and the child she was rather far along with. She had taken Locke’s advice and just went out for the essentials, and even then it was generally with either himself or her father helping her to keep her distracted. But today was different. She could hear how everyone was in a frantic state. Even from inside the house she heard the yelling and people talking loudly of events that were going on in darnassus and there was no escape for her to find.
Something was really not right. Something devastating happened. There was no avoidance for her anymore and she went to Locke and demanded to find out what it was. “Something isn’t right. I can feel it, I’m going out and seeing what I can do. I have to do this.” Tears formed in her eyes and she didn’t hesitate to grab his hand and lead the both of them out into the streets of town.
It didn’t take them long to walk out into the thick of things. People clamoring all around them. Ushering people off to different spots to go and be healed and for anyone and everyone doing what they could to look for supplies, and that’s when they came upon one of the makeshift clinics and Anne was forced to fall back into her lover’s arms. A room full of men, women and even children huddled in there.
The horror gripped her and all she could do was stare inside at all of the agony going on inside. Most of the people in there suffering burns and smoke inhalation and other injuries consistent of a great fire, but even yet she had no idea what was going on or who could have done such a thing. Waiting for someone to pass by her, she grabbed on to someone she had figured to be a healer in the room. Pleading with the woman to tell her what happened the woman took one look at her and shook her head and quickly slipped away from Anne’s grasp.
Deciding that she would never actually hear from someone directly she snuck around the back of a building to listen in to one of the conversations going on inside. Two men seemed unaware of the couple eavesdropping and spoke of all the extra work and the older sounding man blurted out, “I am honestly shocked at the banshee queen burning down the tree with all the civilians inside of it, she must have seriously lost her mind.”
Shock had grabbed her and kept her still for several moments. She could feel herself go numb until finally stepped into the doorway of the inn and with her mouth agape she stared in horror at the men who were just speaking. Anne’s entire body started to shake and the two men caught sight of her and mouthed a curse word or three under their breaths.
She stood there in shock until she was finally able to utter even just one question, “She…did…what?” and in that instant, she felt a shudder of pain come over her and she yelped out in pain as she reached back to grab onto Locke’s hand. The damp ground underneath her proved to her that perhaps going out and investigating may not have been the best idea, but it meant this child was going to be coming soon, whether she was ready for it or not.
