In Defense of Our Heart

We were assigned to investigate the Wailing Caverns, as initial reconnaissance showed that the void activity had been pinpointed to that area. The Warlord accompanied the Warband as rear guard and support, while General Ysrathil Dawnsteel took point, instructing the rest of us to remain hidden in the bushes on either side of the entrance to the Caverns. She had wanted to draw the Ren’dorei out into the open, citing that they were just as prideful as Sin’dorei. The Ren’dorei were not fooled by her taunts or requests, however – they grabbed her, dragging her into the Caverns before any of us could stop them.

We pursued the Ren’dorei, but found we could not pass a barrier of void surrounding the six Alliance and Ysrathil. One of them appeared to be their leader: Eliphanius, he called himself. He spoke bold words of ascension and sacrifice of those of us who had the spark of Light in our hearts to the void, beginning with General Dawnsteel. We threw all manner of magic and might at it, but could not fell the barrier. Blood Guard Pyresong called for her cousin to assist us, a woman of void and shadow herself, but the help came too late. The General was tortured, corrupted, and killed by the Ren’dorei, and in her place formed a many-mouthed and tentacled thing of the void that attempted to devour us.

We took significant injury from the beast, but managed to fell it. In the wake of its demise, we were able to locate the General’s body and take it with us. Eliphanius could not be located, and escaped, as we were forced to retreat to cut our losses. He appeared to be on the verge of summoning more of those foul creatures from the void to attack us.

The General could not be saved by the Phoenix Corps. We will lay her to rest in Quel’thalas, in the light of Belore. We have returned her to the Halls of Blood for all honors due a Knight-Lord of the Order and a Champion of the Horde.

And then we will return to the Barrens to exterminate the Ren’dorei. And I will personally not stop until the last Alliance is gone from the shores of Kalimdor.
