The Magister's Letters

(For context, these letters are collected and take place after Luminash's involvement in the lead-up to the Battle of Dazar'alor, detailed in earlier entries)

A handful of letters, each bearing the seal of a different Thalassian office, lay open on Luminash’s desk.

Magister Dawnwing,

Your request has been noted, but I regret to inform you that, at this time, and despite your exemplary service towards our organization since its inception, the Reliquary cannot dedicate further resources towards your proposal.

While the finds you and your team recovered from Nazmir may helpful in understanding the role of the Titans in the early development of our new allies’ society, the risk of putting resources towards another expedition to Zandalar so soon after the sack of Dazar’alor and the unfortunate loss of our personnel first in Vol’dun, and then in Nazmir during the Alliance feint.

Please understand that this neither reflects upon you, nor the late Examiner Sunwatcher, or your record as one of our greatest proponents among the Magistry in any way. When the situation has become more tenable on the isles, we may be able to re-assess our options.

Sincerely,
Reliquary Liaison An’daren

Magister Dawnwing,

I appreciate your loyalty towards the members of your team lost in Nazmir to the underhanded tactics of the Alliance, but there is no reliable indication that those responsible survived the Horde’s march, nor the battle at Dazar’alor. All reports indicate, in fact, that there were no Alliance survivors.

The Magistry, therefore, will not be able to dedicate any resources towards tracking your “Rift Warden Lithendras” at this time, crimes committed against the people of Quel’Thalas or no.

For what it is worth, however, you do have my condolences.

Sincerely,
Magistry Clerk Goldleaf

Magister Dawnwing,

Without access to any intelligence beyond a name, one that you’ll note has never been on the citizenship roles of either Quel’Thalas or Dalaran, the Farstriders are unable to provide any support in your hunt.

It is regrettable, true, that such a man as this Lithendras may be permitted to go free after first his betrayal of the Sunwell itself, and then his unprovoked aggression in Nazmir, but there is little that can be done on our end.

Please let us know if you find further information, but at this time, we are unable to offer any further assistance.

Sincerely,
Lieutenant Val’sarai

One letter bears no seal, but is simply folded, a small hole indicating where it was nailed to the doorpost of the Magister’s Spire apartment.

Dawnwing,

Val’sarai is being diplomatic. You know damn well the Magisters or the Reliquary won’t fund vengeance, and the Farstriders won’t hunt down a ghost.

Come talk some time.

Most of the letters on the desk, though, are unsealed, stacked, seemingly awaiting the right moment to be sent. A pile of crumpled paper sits to their side, the surface of those pages covered in much the same, ink scribbled out, only to be discarded and begun anew.

Varus Silvermorn,

I regret to inform you that, during our most recent expedition to Nazmir, on the isle of Zandalar, your husband, Celas, fell in combat against the Alliance in an unsuspected raid.

He served his people with honor and distinction, and his skills proved invaluable in the many projects on which I had the pleasure of working with him. He will be truly, sincerely missed.

Know, too, that my thoughts are with you in this trying time, and that if there is anything I can do, do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,
Magister Luminash Dawnwing

Anais Thereau,

I regret to inform that, during our most recent expedition to Nazmir, on the isle of Zandalar, that your sister, Amelie, fell in combat against the Alliance in an unsuspected raid.

She served her people with honor and distinction, and in the short time I knew her after she came to Silvermoon from Suramar, she proved a bright and valued part of my dig team. She will be truly, sincerely missed.

Know, too, that my thoughts are with you in this trying time, and that if there is anything I can do, do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,
Magister Luminash Dawnwing

Nearly fifty other letters, all expressing much the same, litter the desk’s remaining surface.
