There was a knock at the door but Regynn only looked at it, not bothering to rise or call out. “It’s another posey for you Miss Reggy. People are right worried about you dear.” the landlady waited with a small bouquet of wildflowers in her hand but when the door stayed shut she sighed heavily and continued, “All right then, I’ll just leave ‘em here with the rest.”
She could hear the old woman’s heavy footsteps as she retreated down the hall, they paused at the top of the stairs for several moments then proceeded to descend to the lower floor. Only then did the priestess move from her chair by the window to open her bedroom door. The table that stood on the landing just outside was covered in flowers, small parcels, and stacks of letters and cards.
She smiled softly, beginning to gather them up when she heard a loud commotion coming up the stairs. She started to dart into her room when she heard a voice calling out to her, “Don’t you dare rabbit back into that room. We’ve come to kidnap you and it’ll be a lot easier if we don’t have to break down the door.”
Kya and Clair topped the stairs, the sisters grinning at Reggy like mischievious children. The red head came forward, hugging Reggy gently before stepping back to look at her, “Oh you poor thing, you look awful. You’re coming home with us. No more brooding in your room.”
Kya took Reggy’s hand, leading her into her own room, “I know what happened was a terrible thing but I’m sure he was just drunk. He’ll come to his senses then he’ll be begging you to forgive him and take him back.”
“Like hell she will.” Clair said, entering the room and plopping down on the bed. “He blew his chance.” she looked up at Reggy, her determined demeanor faltering slightly at the expression on the priestess’s face. “You wouldn’t do that. Not after what he did to you. Would you?”
There was silence for a moment then Regynn blinked and shook her head, “What? No of course not.”
“What did Marc say about it?” Kya asked.
“Nothing much. He asked me if I was okay and brought me home. He kept watching me though. I think he thought I was going to have a breakdown.”
Clair blew out a derisive breath, “Men.” she muttered as she rose and began rummaging under the bed. Before Reggy realized what was happening the sisters had packed a bag for her and Kya looked around, picking up a hairbrush, and a few other sundries they’d missed the first time.
“I think we’re ready. We’ve already told Mrs. Jessup you’ll be away for a bit. Any packages or letters will be delivered to the shop.” Kya handed the bags to Clair, hooking her arm through Reggy’s as she herded the priestess through the door. She was closing it when she stopped, “Oh! I almost forgot.” she exclaimed as she let go of the priestess and disappeared back in the room. After a moment she emerged with the fish bowl cradled gentle in her hands. “Can’t forget about this little guy now, can we?”
I was honestly worried for her for a moment!! Then it was good to know she had friends to take care of her.
