Marachius sat next to a young man in the healing wards. Carefully, he wrapped a cloth bandage around the man’s arm where he had received several cuts. Reaching the end of his bandage, the paladin tucked it in at the edge and then looked up.
“Very nice,” the priestess said, standing across the bed. She nodded and leaned closer to inspect the paladin’s work before looking at the young man. “It will hurt for a few days, I am afraid. But we can prescribe some medicine that will help make the pain more manageable.”
“Thank you, priestess,” the young man said, gently cradling his arm.
“With me, young paladin,” the priestess said as she turned to leave the bedside. Marachius whispered his well-wishes to the young man and then quickly got up from his stool and chased after the priestess.
“You pick up things quickly, Brother Ainsley.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
“Soon, you will be able to assist patients here without any guidance from us,” the priestess added with a smile.
“Maybe I can help the next time a healer is needed at the stockades,” Marachius offered tentatively.
“The stockades? Why the Stockades?”
“Well, I have a friend who has been helping out there. And there’s this one guy she’s had to deal with. I wanted to check him out, so I just figured…”
“Brother Ainsley,” the priestess interrupted, casting a disapproving glance at the young paladin. “When we go somewhere, such as the stockades, it is to administer aid. That is the only responsibility. If you have concerns pertaining to a friend there, then I suggest you speak with the captain of the guard about them. Are we clear, Brother Ainsley,” she added with a softer tone.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Now perhaps, if you are ready, we can move on to your next lesson.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Marachius answered. “Thank you, ma’am.”
Always love a good paladin story and will look forward to more from you on this new character!
