Window Shopping

Marachius stood outside the shop and looked in through the front window. In the window was a blue dress on display. The paladin studied the dress, his head tilting to the side slightly. He was slightly aware of the people walking past on him on the street, only enough to make sure that he wasn’t blocking the way as he looked.

“Looking for your sweetheart?”

Marachius blinked a couple of times before looking for the voice that had just spoken to him. A woman stood in the doorway of the shop, looking at Marachius.

“I’m sorry?”

“Well, I assume that you’re not shopping for yourself,” the shop owner said with a grin. “Though if you are, I’m sure we can alter it to fit.”

“Oh, uh no. Its not for me.”

The shop keeping stepped out onto the street and walked to Marachius’ side. Looking in the window, she nodded before she looked back to the paladin. “Nice choice. Pretty dress without looking too suggestive.”

“Too suggestive?” Marachius asked, obviously confused.

The shop keeper smiled and pat Marachius on the arm. “Oh dear. Let’s start like this. Are you looking for something specific?”

“Uh.. not really.”

“Okay. Are you looking for something fancy or something functional?”

“Functional, I think.”

“Well, this dress certainly fits the bill. What size will you need the dress in?”

“Size?”

“Oh,” the shop keeper said with a grin. “You don’t have any idea, do you?”

“No, I guess not,” Marachius answered, blushing slightly.

“Okay, let’s start this way.” The shop keeper took a step back. “Is she shorter or taller than me?”

“About your height, I think.”

“Good. That’s a good start. Is she my size?”

“Well, skinnier really.”

The shop keeper smirked. “I’ll try not to take that personally,” she said, causing Marc to blush again.

“I’m so sorry..” Marc stammered.

“Don’t worry about it, dearie. I assume this is going to be a Winter’s Veil gift?”

“Maybe.”

“I tell you what. I don’t want to keep you from getting a gift for your sweetheart.”

“She’s not..” Marc started to speak, but the shop keeper wasn’t listening.

“If you buy it, I’ll throw in alterations. Just tell her to bring it here and we’ll change whatever needs changing.”

“Depends on how much it costs,” replied Marachius.

“Of course, dearie. Let’s step inside and discuss it.”
