Sneaking Off is Easy

The problem with portals is that they make travel easy and quick.  Even if they do make her a bit nauseous.  It’s easy to skip off unbeknownst to Raerys or anyone else. Not being a part of the military troupes or mercenary groups afforded her the ability to come and go as she pleased, it seemed.

The alliance between herself and the undead woman was unexpected. They had worked together for some time now, the forsaken procuring some various items that weren’t easy to find. Things such as cloth and Tris’ beloved okra.

When Tris found out where the woman was headed, she’d asked to tag along. Without a word, the woman nodded her agreement.

They arrived together. The woman wasn’t much on words but she was skilled and knew what to do. In the few days there, de Luca had shown her where to go, what to avoid, and finally, the little gnome that would allow her easy passage back and forth.

Most of the time now, Duir was enough. But sometimes, still, she needed the feel of actual danger. What better place? There was none. Duir just stood there, taking whatever she had to offer.  But not the Legion. The Legion fought back with its demons and dreadlords. For some reason, that initial visit wasn’t enough to sate that need for long.

As were most of the shadier sort, de Luca had disappeared, unable to be found, when the notion had struck her again. She thought of Ouro and his warnings as she stepped through the portal.

I love that she has such a deep, strong adventurous streak. I doubt many of the characters that know here realize it about her.
