Can't Get Out

The second night had not gone any better than the first.  Though, spending the early morning hours cooking and baking had calmed her want to flee substantially, she still had wondered exactly what she’d agreed to.  The day had been filled with finding all the okra they could possibly carry home, shopping for an excellent Stormwind Brie, bourbon, and the finest blue cloth.  It had ended with a ball in a beautiful mansion near the water’s edge.

He had assured her everything would go smoothly and it had. It seems the introduction of these new elves made it all the much easier. Until their conversation drifted to more personal things. He had all but stormed out of the ball and she had done nothing less than follow him. How could she be caught there? Alone?

Much to his chagrin, she’d sent him to bed again, still not feeling up to even a nap. The lack of sleep indeed did wear on her as she stepped out onto the deck but there was no way she could take him up on his offer to take the bed as he took to the couch. It was useless to think she could sleep. As the cool wind blew in her hair, she looked out over the ocean and the moon’s reflection.

“You really know how to make a guy who doesn’t have a chance think he does.”

That statement rolled around in her head as she watched the tiny people on the dock below. Her fingers gripped the railing, knuckles white as she wrung her hands. It was all more than she wanted to bear at the moment. Had she? Did she?

Was how she acted completely opposite of what she said? There was no Duir to coax her through, tell her where she had screwed up and where she had gone wrong.

He had grown on her. But romantically? Gods, why did he even have to bring that up. Had he even been the one?  Or had she stupidly broached the subject?

Whomever it was…she now questioned, for the first time in a while, why she should even interact with someone else. And now, what was she going home to? That stupid auction. Gods…what had she gotten herself into?

There was no getting out now.  She sighed and tucked an errant hair behind her head just as she tried to push the dark thoughts from her mind. How she had hurt him. Without even trying.

The sun would rise, and they would go home. She’d face the auction and then she could sleep.  It wasn’t like she would garner any interest anyway. That was for the best.
