Kharris looked at the blanks. She frowned deep enough that her dimples popped out in both cheeks. She didn't usually do resolutions and she wasn't quite sure what had taken her to make her start a list.
Her brows pulled down tight over her eyes. She took another drink. Even the smooth bite of the alcohol didn't dislodge the frown. This felt like too much pressure. The future was too far away. Even tomorrow seemed unreasonable to speculate about.
Her ear flickered toward the whirring of something mechanical. Asarel was working on something in the back room. The Barge had needed some general maintenance. Maybe he was working on repairing the heating vestibules for the motor? She'd have to make sure she thanked him for his work. He was a rock for her. He would like how she thanked him... That thought did banish the frown, instead quirking up her lips and teasing out her dimples that way.
Her pencil tapped the page, making an area of soft grey speckles.
Resolutions should be made in pen. Ink. Not to be erased and immutable. ... Right?
The pen was heavier in her fingers, the enamel smooth and pretty. She had no sooner pulled it out than she set it down, careful not to catch the nib.

Castien was laughing from somewhere upstairs, taking down the Winter's Veil decorations with Ylaise. They'd clearly found some of the hidden mistletoe.
Kharris sighed and leaned back in her chair. The pen cap rolled under her fingers while she thought. She wasn't sure how to move forward in her own life anymore--or maybe she never had. Enjoying the moment was always the goal, not chasing the next one. Movement was good. A step back was a step... Too many steps were taking her away from her own self the last few years though. Get back to basics. She didn't need to over complicate life the way she had been.
It was getting easier to lean on others. She didn't need to fend for herself all the time now.

Farthing leapt up to the arm of her chair, imperiously looking over her paper. They both knew where this was going, but Kharris was a moment too late to keep the cat from walking over her list. His paws crumpling paper, he gave a disgruntled mur as if he realized the disappointment that the ink was already dry and he hadn't added any smudges. He flopped down on it, covering most of it, and began grooming.
His fur was silky and Kharris took a moment to admire the way the lamp light bounced off his paws. The rasp of his tongue and the wickedly sharp claws made her smile.
"Farthing, darling, you're right." She leaned forward and pressed her head against his, interrupting his bath. He purred anyway, eyes slowly blinking as he butted back against her. "Self care is maybe the best resolution." Reluctantly, her fingers slipped away from him and he went back to her bath as she abandoned the list.
"Asarel? I want to go out dancing."
