Of Pain and Darkness

Cold. Why is it so fucking cold…

Amorthon groaned as he slowly opened his eyes, his head throbbing as he tried to focus. It was dark…cold…the ground was hard and he was…restrained?

He tried pulling away from whatever wall he was leaning against - only to fall back with a hiss as pain rocketed through his shoulder.

“Wouldn’t do that Blackwood. Just because you don’t have arrows sticking out of your shoulder doesn’t mean we patched everything up all pretty. Just did enough to keep you from dying on us…for the moment. Could always stick a couple of knives in those spots instead.”

The ranger narrowed his gaze across the room, in the direction the voice had come from. His vision was fuzzy, and try as he might, he couldn’t focus.

“Things a little hazy? Good. They’re supposed to be. Might as well get used to it, gonna be down here a while.”

With a deep inhale the ranger managed to push himself up into a sitting position, leaning heavily against the wall once again. “Where the hell am I?”

“Where the hell is that tiger of yours?”

Amorthon fought back a snarl. “Why the fuck would I tell you that?”

“Oh, now that’s just not nice. Here I thought we were going to have a nice little exchange of information, but you had to go and be a little shit.”

Had he been able to focus, he might have been able to avoid the incoming fist…but between his hazy few of the room and his sluggish reflexes, he had no change. His head snapped to the side as pain exploded in the side of his head.

“Might want to be a bit nicer with your next answer. Now…not telling you where you are, what’s the fun in that? But give me a decent response to the next question and MAYBE I won’t shove a knife in that shoulder of yours and twist for a while. Because honestly, that sounds like a good time to me…”

“Not answering a damn thing.”

“Aww, and here I thought that little Shiverflame girl meant something to you. Be a shame if something happened to her because you weren’t a good little boy…wouldn’t it.”

The ranger’s jaw clenched tightly as he fought to keep from making noises as the previously mentioned knife was thrust into his shoulder.

Breathe…just focus on breathing. Don’t give him the satisfaction…

“Here’s how this is going to work. Next time I come down, we’re gonna try this conversation thing again. Maybe I’ll have you a little more drugged up, maybe I’ll have you hanging by that other arm, who knows. I haven’t decided yet. But the longer you keep up this tough guy act, the worse it’s gonna be for you, and probably for little lady Shiverflame.”

Amorthon turned his head to respond but was met with a fist to the gut, which doubled him over.

“Don’t need a response now, Blackwood. Time to be a good little boy, and go back to fucking sleep.”

Once again, the ranger’s head was pulled back by his hair, and a point was forced down his throat. He was hit with a wave of nausea before being met with darkness once again.
