It Could've Been Worse?

There were a few things the ranger had been forced to learn early on in his life…one of which was to get used to sleeping on uncomfortable surfaces. Cold ground? Not a problem. A few branches up in a tree? Sure, why not? A ‘comfortable spot’ between a few jagged rocks? If there were no other options, then okay. So waking up on a cot and feeling like he’d just been sat on by a kodo was not something he’d been expecting.

Amorthon groaned as he cracked his eyes open, his whole form aching, but a majority of the pain focused in his left shoulder. ‘…What the hell did I do…? And why is it ALWAYS that shoulder?’ He closed his eyes for a moment, taking a breath before attempting to sit up…immediately freezing and easing back down onto the cot. ‘Nope, clearly not happening…I’m just gonna stay put. Yup, sounds like a plan…’ He turned his head enough to glance around the tent, pausing as he glanced off towards his left, his gaze falling to his heavily bandaged shoulder. With a tired sigh, he rested his head back, now clearly remembering the events leading up to his current situation. Fucking felhounds.’

The constant cloud cover made it difficult to determine the time, much less how long he’d been unconscious. The last thing he recalled was asking for Lynesse, and even that had been a shot in the dark. Whoever had patched him up had managed to at least minimize the burning for the time being, and for that he was grateful…though he wasn’t too keen on seeing what was under the bandages, at least not yet. It had to be better than the mangled mess he remembered…right? He owed the healer a drink…or twenty.

It was just as he was closing his eyes, fully prepared to drift off again, that he heard movement from the edge of the tent. “Ah, look who’s up.”  “…That would depend on one’s definition of ‘up’…but awake, then yes.” He reached up with his right hand to lightly pinch the bridge of his nose. “..I’m sorry…just sorry…could you please fetch the healer who patched me up? I’d like to maybe get a sense of the damage?” He waited for the man to nod before closing his eyes and letting his hand fall back down beside him once again as his shoulder started to ache. All things considered…it could’ve been worse….right?
