“What about Watcher Keller?”
Benjamin threw the ball to his friend, Lohgan. The two boys were in the front yard of tavern that Ben’s family owned, tossing a ball back and forth.
“Yeah, he probably has. What about Watcher Ladimore?”
“Oh yeah,” Ben replied. “I bet he’s fought tons of skeletons.” Ben grunted as he caught the ball that had been thrown back to him. “What about Watcher Hartin?”
“I don’t know,” Lohgan replied before catching the ball again. “He’s always quiet when I see him.”
“What about Watcher Royce?” Ben asked as he held up his hands in the air.
“Watcher Royce? But she’s a girl!” Lohgan said before thrown the ball again.
“So what?”
“Girls don’t fight skeletons, do they?”
“Sure they do! Remember Commander Ebonlocke? She fought bunches of skeletons!”
“Maybe. But most girls aren’t like that.”
“Bet they are,” Ben said matter-of-factly.
“What about Miss Felicia?” Lohgan asked.
“I dunno,” Ben answered. “But if I were her, I’d just jump on one of my gryphons and fly away.”
“Me too,” Lohgan said in agreement.
“What about..” Ben began, throwing the ball one more time. But before he could finish his question, there was a loud explosion south of town. Lohgan has jumped at the sound, causing him to miss the ball as it rolled to a stop a few feet behind him. Both boys stared down the road at the column of smoke that was rising into the air. Hearing a commotion back in town, the two boys looked to see several members of the Night Watch running past them.
“What was that?” Lohgan asked.
“I don’t know. Let’s go inside. Maybe we can see something from the upstairs window!”
“Right!”
The episodes seem random but there's a theme to them as a whole. I like that feel I get when I read them!
I like how the rhythm of the game of catch is clear in the question and answer back and forth between them
..wait.. what.. girls aren't like that?! :> This is a cute scene describing what is going on in town from a totally different point of view.
