It was late at night and for the most part, the Cathedral was quiet. There were few people moving about the great hall, most were priests and priestesses with a paladin moving around on guard duty. The lights mounted around the hall gave off a soft light in the hall. And its emptiness only helped to accentuate the sounds of footsteps.
From the private quarters, a priestess came stumbling out of the hallway and into the great hall. She stumbled slightly and her hand went to the wall to steady herself. A moment later, she pushed off of the wall and started walking down the hall again. She had just made it to another doorway when a priest walked out and stopped.
“Good evening, Sister Tessa. How are you doing?”
The priestess started turning her head from side to side, looking anywhere except at the priest.
“Are you okay, Sister Tessa?”
The priestess froze. Slowly, her head started turning until she looked at the priest. At first her face was blank. Then the corner of her lip turned down and a growl started in her throat.
“Sister Tessa?” the priest asked again, taking a step backwards.
The priestess let out a roar and her human form was replaced with that of a worgen. She leapt at the priest, knocking him to the ground. Her momentum made her roll over the priest onto the ground, but she was back up on her hands and feet almost immediately.
“Help!” the priest screamed, trying to scramble away from the worgen. He was on his back and tried to crawl away, but the worgen snarled and stalked forward. The sounds of metal boots hitting the ground started echoing through the hall. The worgen stiffened and glanced to the side.
From around one of the columns, two paladins came running around. Seeing the worgen stalking the priest, the first paladin ran straight at her. The paladin barreled into the worgen and knocked her to the ground. The worgen began clawing at the paladin’s armor as he tried to restrain her. The other paladin was close behind, and between the two managed to pin the worgen’s arms to the ground.
“What happened?” the second paladin called out.
“I don’t know,” the priest sputtered. “I said hello to Sister Tessa and then she attacked me.”
“This is Sister Tessa?” the paladin responded with surprise.
“Yes!”
“Go get more help. We need to restrain her until we can figure this all out.”
But Sister Tessa is Gilnean.
Gah, missed that detail. Still, she clearly caught rabies from those Darkshire worgen. Or something. :) Anyhow, am curious as to what brought this on.
I wasn't expecting that!
Those Darkshire worgen, giving worgen a bad name. This series continues to interest!
