Light The Way

The afternoon sky was turning towards evening for Darkshire. In the backyard of the Larethian household, there was a fire going in a pit that lit up the yard and the nearby buildings. Sitting on the ground around the fire were five young men and women and sitting in a chair with them was Braghaman.

“Does it always get dark this quickly here?” one of the young men asked.

“Usually,” Bragh answered. “The trees certainly help.”

“Do the worgen ever come up to your house?” one of the women asked.

“Rarely,” Braghaman answered with a smirk. “Usually, they get a whiff of Valiant or Temperance and then decide its not worth it.”

“That’s useful,” another of the paladins said with a chuckle.

“Definitely.”

“What about the horde?” the other woman asked hesitantly.

“Coming to the house? Never happened,” Bragh answered with a shake of his head.

“Aren’t you worried?” the first young man asked.

“No.”

“But what if they show up?”

“I don’t know,” Braghaman said with a shrug, though he cast a sharp look at the recruit. “Depends on what they’re up to.”

“Wouldn’t you be afraid that they’re going to burn down Darkshire?” the young man asked, his voice getting slightly louder.

“Not everyone in the horde want to burn down villages and cities.”

“They burned down Darnassus,” the last recruit finally spoke up.

“They did,” Braghaman said with a sigh. “But do you think that every member of the horde is responsible for that?”

“They could’ve stopped it.”

“Maybe,” Braghaman said with another shrug. “But sometimes, for some people.. doing what’s right isn’t the easiest path to walk.”

“Then what are we supposed to do, commander?” the first recruit asked.

“We show the others where the right path is,” Braghaman answered, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. “We protect the innocent, we defeat the wicked. Where ever it is found. If someone raises their weapon to harm an innocent, horde or not, then we stand between them. We defend the innocent. We prevent the evil.” Braghaman let out a slow breath and then leaned back in his chair again.

“You are the light. When you are ready, when you are done with your training, then it will be you who will go into the world. You will stand between the innocent and the darkness. And you will light the way so that others can follow.”
