Just before the stroke of midnight two elves pushed a little rowboat off the shore of a lake. They had disturbed the glass-like water, creating big ripples in the otherwise near perfect reflection of the vast sky above. Safe inside their borrowed vessel, the elves began to row out to the approximate center of the star shimmering mirror; their laughter and chatter echoed just barely against the distant cliff in the deep night.
A few short hours prior Kavaina had been playing guitar to a nearly empty inn as a way to pass the time. The mid-week bustle of the city rarely went strong after the sun set, making late nights for the elf...

We smiled at each other, his presence turning my attention away from the dullness of watching not-quite-couples dancing. It was so nice to see his smile then, so wonderful to know he was at least as happy to see me as I was to see him. The club suddenly did not matter to me. I realized right then that I only came to the establishment in hopes of seeing him.
Perhaps he had thought the same thing because, not long after our short interaction, he invited me to fly with him. I welcomed it gladly, wanting to get away from the uncomfortable feeling I get whenever there are people happily flirting with each other. Except for hundreds of tiny pushpin holes covering the largest of them, the apartment walls were bare. Instead, the dozens of pieces of paper recently rescued were strewn over a cramped dining table. The three young men sat at lazy, insolent angles around the mess of maps, schedules, and schematics.
The dry rustle of paper attempted to fill the silence as a calloused hand shoved angrily across the table. “Seriously, Ren? A guard? Fel, man. And she’s been fucking ARRESTED?!”
