"Why Do You Fear Me?"

(( This post is from a few years ago in story, but it's very relevant. Kav's only now getting over some of her fears from the events of this scene. ))

Late afternoon sun contrasted with the harsh shadows of tall pine trees. A howl sounded in the distance, back where they had come from; the feral beasts had caught their scent. It wasn’t time to rest.

Horizon took Kavaina’s hand, took a slow breath, then rounded from the boulder in a dash. Kav ran as fast as her legs would allow her, taking her hand back so she could swing her arms and keep up with her partner. It seemed only seconds had passed when the quick pad of running paws came up close behind the elves, weaving in and out of the trees along the path. Kav would have cried if...

At Night

(( This is an old piece I wrote after an adorable roleplay scene. I'm bringing it over from tumblr. ))

Just before the stroke of midnight two elves pushed a little rowboat off the shore of a lake. They had disturbed the glass-like water, creating big ripples in the otherwise near perfect reflection of the vast sky above. Safe inside their borrowed vessel, the elves began to row out to the approximate center of the star shimmering mirror; their laughter and chatter echoed just barely against the distant cliff in the deep night.

A few short hours prior Kavaina had been playing guitar to a nearly empty inn as a way to pass the time. The mid-week bustle of the city rarely went strong after the sun set, making late nights for the elf...

Kav's Thoughts: Noon

Kav’s thoughts as she prepares to open the doors for open jam at the studio today are as follows:

“Five hours of sleep - new record.”

“Did this drum get heavier?”

“Whoa shit it’s cold out here!”

“Oh gods I’m …. I’m gonna … a. a. *sneeze*”

“Good thing Dahl had to leave on some business or he’d be telling me to lock the doors for the day and eat soup.”

“Huh, a new message from V; bet he’s worried about my health again.”

“Looks like I need to buy some more plum wine so Horizon has something when he stops by.”

“What am I gonna do if all three of them want to stay the same night?”

“Yes first customer wants to play the recorder! Way to wake up the neighborhood, kid!”

A New Home

"This is it. This has got to be it. The little porch at the entrance is perfect. I can already see the front hallway with the coat hangers and boot mat. I can heat up drinks on the fire in the nook with just enough space for a table. Oh! Or a hammock! That could be cute. And this second room will fit a full size mirror and a wood dance floor - I can use the step up as a sort of practice stage! Upstairs will suit me just fine with cozy bedroom and the long hall for my instruments and surfboards and clothing chest and this little side place will be perfect for candle carving and  ... gosh I love it!"

"This is the one. No need to keep looking at vacancies," Kav grinned to Vynix, gloved finger-tips tapping her cheeks to keep them warm....

Personal Details

I want to thank you for--

She scribbles the line out, crumbles the paper within her hands, and tosses it to the floor. There are dozens of pieces like this, discarded to the wood boards beneath her feet. Some are long winded and beautifully poetic. Most are short and direct. None of them are what Kav wants to give to the friends she made while working with the burlesque group.

The elf groans and rolls her eyes as she plants her elbows on the table and presses her cheeks into the upright palms of her hands. Her thoughts swirl around her mind, yet the paper before her is blank. There she sits, dwelling on the things she wants to say to her coworkers, for hours. Only as the loud birdsong begins at the sight of the first rays of sunshine...
