“Out here again?” The voice had seemed to come from nowhere and startled the young elf, though he managed to catch himself before falling face first off the fence he’d been perched on.
“Lu-lugon! Don’t sneak up on me like that!” Ruidor huffed, settling himself on the fence once again. “You sound too much like An-, I mean, like father when you do that…”
The older man shrugged as he leaned forward against the fence. “Sorry kid, can’t help it that you were distracted.”
Another huff, unconvinced that he was anything close to ‘sorry’. “Right, like you didn’t wait for the foal to wander back this way before come in.”
“I’d never even dr-”
“You did the same thing to me last week, Lugon.”
“Then you should’ve been prepared for it.” Ruidor crossed his arms over his chest, the lynx that had previously been hidden, wandering in to settled under the boy’s dangling feet. “And besides, I have no recollection of this.”
“Then maybe you remember what happened right after that…when father showed up to scream at me for not being inside.”
Lugon sighed, reaching up to scratch at his chin thoughtfully. “…I suppose I MIGHT vaguely remember that…”
Ruidor rolled his eyes as he hopped down off the fence and wandered towards the stall door, peaking over at the mare and the foal resting inside. “I still don’t understand WHY he was so angry. I finished my work, and the instructor said I could go.” “Dunno kid, you know how he gets about you-” “Doing anything?” A tired sigh.
“I was GOING to say ‘for hanging out in the stables’. He doesn’t yell at you for everything.” The boy looked up with narrowed eyes.
“…Okay, well how about almost everything?” An annoyed snort.
“Yeah, alright, he yells alot. But you’re supposed to be going on a trip with him soon, yeah?”
A look of uncertainty crossed the boy’s face. “…Minn’da hasn’t mentioned anything about a trip, and usually any time I’m leaving she’ll talk to me about it before…” “Oh, well that’s because it’s a secret.”
Unconvinced, Ruidor tapped the toe of his boot against the ground before reaching down to scratch behind one of his feline companion’s ears. “…Father doesn’t take me places unless Minn’da insists. It just all sounds…wrong.”
Lugon scoffed. “Eh, you spent too much time around your brother, kid. It’ll be FINE.” A quick peek over the stable door at the foal, and Ruidor turned to head out of the stables.
“…I don’t know if I believe that.”
