Forgotten Memories - Pt. 3

“You can’t just show up like this…what if he had been home?”

“What of it?” A deep chuckle. “He wouldn’t approach me. Bluster and shout, maybe, but actually do anything? No.”

A tired sigh. “Dymere, it’s not funny! You may be able to come and go as you please, but I’m left here. And so are our bo-,”

The voice trailed off as a little dark-haired boy, no older than one or two, toddled in, clutching a small stuffed tiger. The boy stared up at the stranger before moving to his mother and tightly clinging to her leg. Corviya reached down and scooped the boy up, settling him on her hip. The boy turned to shield his stuffed tiger from the unknown man’s view, his head resting against his mother’s shoulder. Corviya straightened up, adjusting her shoulder with a huff as she regarded the man in front of her again.

“As I was saying, you and Xaithan have the freedom to come and go as you please, but Ruidor-,” she motioned at the boy in her arms, “-and myself can’t. And if he sees you, then we pay the price. And before you ask, yes–he’s yours. The end result of your last extended visit.”

The reveal of the news caused Dymere to pause, but only for a second. He seemed to study the young boy in her arms, a gentle smile growing as his soft expression flit from boy to mother. He took a step closer. “Want to see something amazing?” he asked of the boy. When he stared back at him, he simply began to draw arcane energy, weaving a spell between his hands if it were some second nature pattern of movements. What manifested was a giant tiger of white and blue stripes, eyes of gold as it bounded around the head of mother and boy before stopping between parents and rolling over as if it were some house cat, hopefully making the boy laugh.

The boy lifted his head to watch the arcane tiger, his grip on his stuffed tiger and his mother never loosening. He watched as the image rolled around between the adults before looking at his mother and then at the stranger once more. “…Again?” He tilted his head, his gaze curious but clearly interested - in the large colorful tiger at least.
