Answering Questions

Braghaman sat quietly next to the desk as the guard gathered a pad of paper and sat down across from him. It took the guard a moment more to get settled and set his pencil to paper. Then, he looked up at the paladin.

“Name?”

“Bragh Larethian.”

“Where do you live?”

“Darkshire.”

“Over in Duskwood?” the guard asked, looking up from his paper.

“Yes,” Bragh answered, barely fighting back the smirk and sarcastic comment.

“What brought you to Stormwind today?”

“I had a meeting.”

“Where at?”

“The Cathedral.”

“Looking for some healing, Mr. Larethian?”

“No,” Bragh said, frowning slightly.

“Who were you meeting with?”

“Lord Shadowbreaker.”

“Shadowbreaker? A bit old to start training to be a paladin, aren’t you?”

“Definitely.”

“Where’d you go after your meeting?”

“I met my friend Erik and we visited the king’s memorial.”

“Erik. He’s the man who was with you when you were located by the guards.”

“Yes.”

“Who is he?”

“He works with me,” Braghaman answered, a bored look appearing on his face.

“What kind of work?”

“Private work.”

The paladin and the guard paused and stared at each other. The office grew quiet until finally the guard blinked and looked back down at his papers.

“May I ask why I was brought in?”

“There was a robbery this morning. The owner of the shop that was robbed identified you.”

“Wasn’t me. I was at the Cathedral.”

“The entire time?”

“Up until just shortly before your men found me. You can check.”

“We will, Mr. Larethian. I’ll be sending someone there to check on your story. Until then, you’ll be staying here.”

“Of course,” Bragh said with a frown.

The guard looked back towards the open door and beckoned in another young man. “Take Mr. Larethian to the lock-up.”

“You’ll send someone to check with Lord Shadowbreaker, right?”

“Of course. We’ll send someone over to speak with him as soon as we can. Until then, you’ll be our guest while we look further into this matter.”

Braghaman stood up and shook his head. He looked to the man questioning him then to the young man waiting to take him to his cell. For a moment, he considered making things difficult. But the idea was fleeting. Still frowning, the paladin walked up to the younger guard and followed him from the room.
