Another year

Saeil put the last of the items into the box. It was hard to believe that it already a year had gone by since he’d sent out a box like this one to Zelly. This year though, it seemed to mean even more.

 He now knew the truth about his family and now knew that he owed his life to her not just for one instance but two. She’d not only saved his life when he put himself in harm’s way to save her but she found him when he was an abandoned newborn and brought him to the Sunspell estate in hopes of giving him a better chance. Though his life certainly hadn’t been the best, they had given him all the food, clothing and shelter he needed for most of his childhood. She hadn’t known what kind of people they were. She had always done the best she could from then on to help him. She gave him magic, she was his traveling companion after he’d been disowned, she even gave him his tattoos. Though he had known her for so long now, she was still something of an enigma to him. He was fairly certain though that she was to everyone she’d ever met. Often, he wondered if she did that on purpose. But even that, he wasn’t quite sure of.

Another year has gone by already. You know the things I’ve dealt with this past year. So many changes. I know that you’ve had your fair share too. The past few months things have looked up for me and I hope the same has been true for you. I hope this next year brings you good luck and happiness. I know that you’ve been doing some traveling again. Maybe these will help you out there.

Inside the box, he had placed a rare gold coin, one meant to bring good luck. A red gem meant to give protection and some malachite, helpful for adventure and new beginnings. Small little trinkets but things that she would appreciate more than anything else he could send. There really wasn’t he could ever do to repay her for everything she’d done for him. The least he could do was remember her birthday.
