It's great

With the greedy hands of a child, they just take.

People take and take and take and he just lets them. Until he’s left with only a stump. And he simply invites them to have a seat on the stump. He just smiles and says it’s fine.

It’s fine.

He doesn’t need anything in return. He doesn’t need anything at all. After all, he’s only had himself to rely on all this time. Why would he need anyone?

It had always been hard for him to open up to others. Most of the times that he had, nothing good had come of it, in the end. Those people had pried off his walls so quickly that everything had come crashing through. There was so much that it was enough to drown someone or send them running.

That alone was enough to cause him to pull those walls right back up, reminded that they had been there for a reason. Months had passed now but with the revelation of where he had really come from, those reminders still moved around in his head. Reminders of being unwanted.

And sure, people had said all the right things. Had offered to talk more about it with him. But what else was there to say? It was what it was. And no matter what they said, they couldn’t really understand how it felt. Nobody could. So what was the use in talking about it?

It’s fine.

It’s great.

So he went right back to his usual self. Right back to helping other people with their problems, supporting them. It was what he was good at. And it was good to feel needed. But he was tired. And a little sad. A little empty.

But it would be fine, right?  It will be great.
