The Lost Brother

The Novelist was still rather in shock about all of it. He knew that his brother was likely out there somewhere. He’d always seemed like such a survivor. Nothing stopped him from going after anything he truly wanted. He was like a force of nature ever since he was baby and that never seemed to be snuffed out by anything, not even their father who did his best to try to do just that. It was always as if he was somehow personally offended by Saeil’s fiery spirit. Even their mother, who seemed to admire that passion to some degree, would often try to discourage it.

That discouragement always seemed to somehow push Saeil further, cause him to burn brighter with his wild and irreverent nature. Alaris always worried that the world would eventually cause him to burn out. But apparently that was not the case. At least not from what he knew of how Saeil had turned out.

When he heard that name on Feyanni’s lips, he could hardly believe his ears. He was confused, standing there as if in a dream as he looked between her and some young man who was apparently Saeil’s friend that Fey also knew. He noticed that man looked just as stunned as he did, it made him wonder if his younger sibling had mentioned him before. He could only imagine the stories Saeil may have told about the family.

And then that photo… the last time the novelist had seen his brother, he didn’t have all those tattoos and was much more boyish looking but still, it was without a doubt Saeil and those tattoos only seemed to suit him, as if they were always meant to be there. Each one seemed to be a mark of his free spirit.

And now here Alaris sat with an empty sheet of paper and his pen, trying to think of what it was he wanted to tell his brother now that he’d found him. What do you say to someone you haven’t seen in over six decades?
