Too Much (WrA Faceless Plotline)

There was too much activity. That’s what Khaeris noticed as she walked through the streets. Too many people for this early. Too much commotion; too many carts; too many hawkstriders. People were going places. Fast. Maybe even a little anxious as they moved.

Her hand tightened in Andaeros’s, he’d already noticed, and they continued to meander slowly on their path home from the translocation orb. They’d stayed the night in Orgrimmar for Brewfest; they’d been too tipsy to chance portal sickness and all too happy to have a night out of Silvermoon.

A quick but sincere kiss and they parted for their respective days. Her steps were quicker now, the buzz in the air infecting her feet. Through the Bazaar, it was clear there was a...

Long Overdue

The motion of the single scrap drew Khaeris’s eye downward with its erratic movements. The paper fluttered innocently, even as the rest of the mail flopped lazily onto the wagon’s floorboards. The alchemist ignored the rest of the mail, letting her dark fingers pluck up the paper only when it had come to rest quietly of its own accord.

There was no telling how long the note had been lodged in the mail slot. Had it arrived today? Yesterday? A week ago? A month? She had the impression it had been dislodged from a long stay unnoticed.

I have the Animal... though you would endure her as Paijwen... she is no more... come and save her. I implore you.

There was no envelop, but the few Thalassian words that took her breath...

Heavy Hearts in Highmountain

Highmountain was beautiful, but the scenic mountains had not soothed Khaeris like they had previously. Her mind was so caught up on itself, even the slightly musty smell of straw from the nearby village stables couldn’t catch her attention; the breeze had tousled her hair, but it didn’t lighten her heart. The sounds of the birds gossiping in the dawn did not pull her in to their song.

It had been a night like so many others, spent laying next to Andaeros in the small tent he kept in the mercenary camp. Small touches, quiet voices, and soft kisses before sleep claimed her lover. But something had nagged at her and kept her from resting. There was a stone made of her unease sitting leaden in her stomach. Even her movements felt heavy...

Intoxication

The evening was quiet, and Khaeris couldn’t remember ever being this content. Twilight had passed, and her wagon was lit by soft magelights turned to a sleepy glow. Andaeros was at the fold-out table behind her. Sunny was curled up next to the man, snoring in that tiny panda way of his. Dinner was finished and the scene was something out of a dream. Even washing up was nice, and Khaeris took a conscious moment to enjoy the warmth of the soapy water over her skin.

“I love you.” Andaeros’s voice was warm with simple statement, unburdened and unconcerned. Familiar. As if the words came easily and often to him.

They had never come to Khaeris’s ears, though, and she stiffened slightly as a shock ran up her spine. The moment...

She'd Have This

She didn’t know what they were called, but Khaeris ran a finger over the spiraling, sharp line of a long, thin machine screw. She pressed the pad of her finger against it for a few seconds, just  enough to be painful, before she carefully set it back down in the funny little magpie pile she’d made on the floor of his room. A few of the very precise screws, a piece of cork (what was that for?), and one of his sketches he’d made for Pyraelia’s prosthetic designs. She’d been sitting there awhile now, in the early hours of the morning, not bothering to look for the restless sleep she’d abandoned an hour ago.

They made her think of him. The strong lines of his ink sketch were his confidence in his work. The hard metal screws...

Things Shattered

After a long and tiring night of going circles, Tris was home. Without even bothering to turn on any lights, she made her way to her bedroom, shoulders were slumped in defeat and exhaustion. She shed her clothing, save for an underslip, and plopped down in a chair, ignoring Duir as she’d done for weeks now. She looked down at her arm, fingers tracing the new skin in spots along it…still marked from her bout with fire. Though, the wounds weren’t nearly as bad as they seemed in her head. They had healed fine, with only discoloration and mottled texture remaining.

“You could try being a dominatrix…” “Maybe you need a different friend with benefits…” “You should train as a mercenary…” “Join the military!”

She...

Coming Round

“Now you know you have to be a good girl, princess.” The young girl looked at her father as he knelt before her. “You know that’s very important, right?” He petted his fingers through her hair and twirled a long lock around his finger. “Now, go be a good girl and show Papa how much you love him.”

Trisandrah’s eyes fluttered open and she looked around the unfamiliar space. The room, if you could call it that, was dark and the smell of dirt permeated her entire being.  She shook her head and exhaled sharply. “Ow…” Hands clutched her head and she lay her back on the pillow. The straw under her was hardly comfortable, especially compared to her bed at home but the need to close her eyes and sleep again quickly took...

Another Favor

Ande stood in the doorway and watched Tris as she brushed her hair. Tris hadn’t yet realized she was there. How far the girl had come from the little waif that was barely more than skin and bones. A shell of the young woman that sat before her now. She had left the girl sitting on a bed in a small sparsely decorated room. She hadn’t known what else to do with her.  It was clear the girl wasn’t capable of surviving on her own. Not then. It had taken years to rehabilitate her. The facility had done its job, that’s for sure. Even if she had still been socially awkward when she came out. Ande had slowly pushed her into Silvermoon society. It took a year before she even spoke to someone and made a friend.

But look at her now. Ande...

Sneaking Off is Easy

The problem with portals is that they make travel easy and quick.  Even if they do make her a bit nauseous.  It’s easy to skip off unbeknownst to Raerys or anyone else. Not being a part of the military troupes or mercenary groups afforded her the ability to come and go as she pleased, it seemed.

The alliance between herself and the undead woman was unexpected. They had worked together for some time now, the forsaken procuring some various items that weren’t easy to find. Things such as cloth and Tris’ beloved okra.

When Tris found out where the woman was headed, she’d asked to tag along. Without a word, the woman nodded her agreement.

They arrived together. The woman wasn’t much on words but she was skilled and knew...

Dealing with Demons

She’d watched her sleep for what felt like hours now. The city lamps cast just enough light for Tris to see her. Her friend had been gone so long, she couldn’t bear not being near her this first night, especially since he wasn’t there. Tris lay there until there was no doubt in her mind she’d go crazy if she didn’t go home, at least for a little bit.

I can sneak out for a bit. She won’t even know. I can go and then we’ll have a nice breakfast. She wants to cook me muffins.

Tris carefully slid out of bed, it was something she once was quite skilled at. She hoped she hadn’t lost her touch. Once she’d snuck out of the bedroom, she nearly ran to her own apartment.

As she strode through her house, she’d shed her...

After the Show

She had tried. She’d tried to keep herself occupied until sleep called. It had been a lovely evening, although she felt she’d floundered through it. She was pleased to see Raerys and the time they stole away. But soon, Rae was gone again, and though she felt better after their chat, she was not ready to go home to her empty townhouse. She considered going home with Raerys but sensed her friend very much needed her own time to continue dealing with her own demons. She hadn’t gotten around to what was bothering her, asking for advice, counsel. In the face of it all, it seemed quite trivial. Still, it put the chocolatier out of sorts and had for several days now.image

So back to the after party, she went. She’d arrived at the end of...

His Name is Duir

“Ma’am….”

Tris strode through the door.  The look on her face only gave a slight indication as to how sour her mood was. She smelled of beer and her normally well-groomed hair was frizzy and wavy, somewhat stuck to her head.  Nardrah froze in her place as Tris glared at her.  The trip home had been no better than the night itself.

“Um ma’am…something was delivered for you, ma’am.”

The chocolatier stopped and looked at Nardrah.  “Something came for me?”

“Yes ma’am.  Delivered today.  They said you ordered it.  I…I tried to stop them, but they showed me your signature.”

Tris looked around. “Oooh, earlier than expected.”  She clasp her hands together.  “Did they put it where I...

Truffles Anyone?

Once Tris had arrived back at Rae’s she slipped into bed to try to find some sleep.  She was long since out of the sleeping draught.  Soon, she heard Rae and Ouro tumble through the halls towards Rae’s room.  Their entry and the sounds thereof were not unlike previous nights.

Tris’ threw the pillow that had been covering her head in the general direction of Rae’s bedroom.  She rolled to her back with an agonized groan. While she was surrounded by plush pillows and duvet, it all did little to comfort her into sleep before they had arrived home.  In the hours since their arrival, she hadn’t had a wink of sleep. At the very least, it kept other pressing matters out of her pretty little head.

“Oh fiddle.  Do they never...

Uh oh

“Oh fiddle, oh fiddle.  WhatdoIdo?  WhatdoIdo? WhatdoIdo?” Tris stopped pacing and stared down at the man who lay prostrate on her parlor floor.  As she knelt down, she reached out much like a timid feline, drawing back a few times afraid the man was going to suddenly become not dead.  When the dark-haired elf finally touched him, she immediately jumped up, hands in the air.

“Oh fiddle..fiddle…fiddle…FUCK!”  She frantically looked about the room which was in complete disarray.  Papers littered the floor.  The bookshelf, which normally was a prominent feature in the room, now lay on its side with books and trinkets strewn about in front of it.  She pushed her fingers through her hair and clasp them behind her...

To the Fjord - Part Seven

image

It’s been a very long time since I’ve had to actively consider my mortality. Standing in a walled pit with a knife that might have well have been a short sword in my hand, shackles still on my wrists, a myriad of Vrykul runes burned into my skin preventing me from accessing my magic, and staring down a very angry Shoveltusk apparently triggers that in me.

This didn’t strike me as a particularly survivable situation; I was out of it and trapped. The Vrykul had spent time riling the bull up before putting him between me and the gates. I was going to do my level best. In theory there were people waiting on me and wondering where the fuck I was.

Honestly, the whole thing went on too long. The thunderous yells and jeers of the...

To the Fjord - Part Six

image

Everything was the bad kind of fuzzy when I finally came to again. My shoulders burned fiercely and it didn’t seem like I could feel my hands. I’d upgraded prisons from a cage to a straw lined floor in a single outbuilding. Flaming sconces lined the wooden walls. I’d seen places like this burn down in less than an hour and panic set in.

There was no fleeing, though. My arms were bound by shackle and chain to either side of the narrow space. I didn’t know how long I’d been like that, but I still felt drained. My fingers felt too thick as I went to move them and pain shot through my arms. Angry, red runes had been burned into the backs and palms. I couldn’t draw any magic to heal them. The panic rose.

Hours passed, I...

To the Fjord - Part Five

image

Running is one of my favorite things.

There’s a thrill in it, my blood sings as my feet pound the dirt and I vault over fallen branches and tumbled rocks. I waited until things got quiet to go and I just ran. Well, that’s not entirely true, I paused for a moment to free a throwing axe where it had been left in a tree (honestly it’s big enough to be held with two hands, but great axes have always been my favorite weapon), and then I ran.

It seemed like most of them had gone up to the longhouse, everything else was fairly deserted and the sun was going down. In retrospect I should’ve ditched my cloak, but I didn’t. Sentimentality was slowing me down. Horns started to sound about five minutes into my flight. Then...

To the Fjord - Part Four

image

All things considered, the Vrykul aren’t terrible hosts. I was given three whole candles to keep me warm overnight in an open cage and they didn’t take my fur cloak.

I didn’t really sleep, it was too cold to sleep. Plus, any time one of the hunting worgs would howl the wild ones would howl back. You could hear them loud and clear over the growling rush of the waterfalls nearby. I hadn’t gotten a great look at the area as I was being dragged in, but towards and across the river would definitely be the way to go before heading due north and back east to Winterhoof itself.

Morning came late, the sun bringing to life the old bones of a prisoner who’d come before me. Heavy shackles with rough runic carvings in them bound...

To the Fjord - Part Three

image

The first day of camping was an absolute delight. I always get sort of obscenely giddy when I’m off doing something new alone. One day I’ll figure out why that is; Sometimes I desperately need to be around people but other times just being alone out in the wilds is the greatest thing I can imagine.

I visited the Dryads. From a distance, of course – They have this tendency to lure in wary passers-by and share their food and drink with them. It seems like a good thing but I’ve heard otherwise. The Frost dryads were a delight. They have impromptu snowball fights and have laughs that sound like tinkling, shattering ice.

The Chill Dryads, not the best name as they are far from “chill”, walk through the sparse brush of...
