Pineapple & Coconut

A smile.

We smiled at each other, his presence turning my attention away from the dullness of watching not-quite-couples dancing. It was so nice to see his smile then, so wonderful to know he was at least as happy to see me as I was to see him. The club suddenly did not matter to me. I realized right then that I only came to the establishment in hopes of seeing him.

Perhaps he had thought the same thing because, not long after our short interaction, he invited me to fly with him. I welcomed it gladly, wanting to get away from the uncomfortable feeling I get whenever there are people happily flirting with each other. I had almost finished my glass of fizzy wine, but that wasn’t a problem; I didn’t even say goodbye to any of the...

A Fine Weapon

(( Reposting this from tumblr as I plan to write a follow-up to it soon. This is approximately a year old at this point, so it may not make sense within a linear timeframe with my other stories! ))

--

“You are a weapon.”

The words echoed through the subterranean training yard, deep beneath the residence of the Silver Eye. Eleeria sat, young and wide-eyed, with the two other children in need of instruction. All of them had come to the assassin’s guild for various reasons -- Pielle, the taller and more athletic of the three, because she had no family. Deidral -- a scrawny child, who shook when he held a dagger -- was running from a mother who sought to sell his good looks into a profession perhaps even more dire and joyless...

No Longer Co-Workers

(( Another post from 2012. Rya returned to the Farstriders after leaving ATS and, months later, ran into a few of her ex-coworkers at a club. ))

Gil’s eyes.

I cannot help but think about his eyes. So calm, so collected, so sad, so begging … those are his eyes. My skin prickled as I felt him watching me on the dance floor. He made a few jokes, teasing me with his playful mannerisms. I wonder if he even realizes it is Rya with the short cropped hair and the form-fitted leather. Playful, inviting, alluring. It is a wonder I had not seen the charms of the half-elf sooner.

We shared a campfire after the club closed for the night.I had left before the music stopped, urgently called away on a topic that needed to be spoken about...

A Shifting

(( I wrote this during the events of Cataclysm. Rya struggles with the war and the changes of the world and in her own life. ))

Ruins_of_Taurajo.jpg

She had been obsessed; her naturally amber eyes were filled with the fel green that does not suit her. He knew she needed to get out of Silvermoon, to forests that had not been altered by magic, for her eyes to return to their normal hue and her mind with them. When a Brightsinger goes insane there is little one can do if they do not know them, and Dimetri was dealing with the only recorded Brightsinger left.

“What am I to do if Moriurya crossed that line? Will I be able to protect her as her uncle had made me promise?” -Dimetri

The world had just changed to what was now being called ‘The...

A Tuesday Morning Journal Entry

Last night was a little quieter than I expected. But most of our usual crowd came (save Mr. Blacksong and Lady Ael….I do hope they haven't gone for good), and with a few new faces besides.

Handrin came to visit us! I was quite pleased, actually. He always makes the day a little brighter. I didn't see Derin last night (unsurprising, given his seeming allergy to crowds), but I'm glad we're luring him out more nonetheless. Everyone needs friends around them. He admitted a few nights ago that he'd been to jail...for what? Public nerding out isn't a crime, near as I can tell. Perhaps there's more to him than meets the eye. I'll continue my campaign of kindness, see if we can't bring him into the fold.

And then there's Ren. Where do I...

A Day Off and An Off Day

Melisande welcomed a day off. It'd been a long week - a long month, really. A long year, the changes flying fast and furious. Losing her longtime job, killing her father, falling in love for the first time...it was all so very much.

She had no plan in place. Instead she wandered Silvermoon, speaking to whomever caught her eye. There was a merc with a bundle of swords on his back, a doe-eyed healer with a kind smile that mirrored her own, an elder statesman clad in ranger armor she hadn't seen since she was a young girl.

The young woman purchased a portal to Orgrimmar. An idea that had once been so foreign and terrifying to her had now become simply another opportunity. A Forsaken man chomping on a banana had been her company there...

Classic Cult Action

(( I wrote this story in 2010 during the in-game events leading up to the Cataclysm. ))

da27242198264dedcb0b9b72cb0dc1f8c510bb3c_hq.jpg

It had only meant to be a stroll through Orgrimmar for a certain type of parchment and inks that only a certain vendor possessed at a certain time. Of course not, Lady Moriurya Brightsinger thought as she made her way through the crowds of panicking people, of course I have to come to Orgrimmar just when the world decides to end. Her golden pupils, shaded over with the emerald glow of a blood elf, glanced over at the troll, obviously some sort of shaman, with a large group of people around listening intently.

“Pathetic, the lot of them,” the smooth voice of her consultant broke into her thoughts. Dimetri had proven himself repeatedly in...

"This is about girl, isn't it? ... This is about that girl, isn't it?"

Ren tossed the bag of toiletries on top of the clothes. He managed not to grind his teeth as he flipped the cover. The buckles made pleasant brassy noises as he worked on them. He yanked them snug before finally replying. "Yeah. It is."

His cousin tipped up his beer. Renrael kept packing. Without taking his  eyes off the wall--the wall with hundreds upon hundreds of push pin holes--the other man grunted before questioning,  "You sure you need to go to Tol fucking Barad?"

Ren pushed the lid off his own beer,...

The Lull

It was humid.

The large Paladin grimaced as he leaned against the wall that served to brace the bar against the elements. A cigarette hung from his lips and he casually widened the stance of his feet as a breeze blew through, jostling the beads in his hair. He honestly hated this weather, but this bar was his only refuge now.

The war was won, sort of. Aside from that giant sword doing weird shit to the Desert of Bugs and Cults, there was... nothing. Nothing to be done. Though Sylvanas seemed to be preparing for something, few of the "lowly" were privileged to the plan.

This was the lull. The quiet before the storm.

A loud bark of laughter set the gulls to squawking and golden depths shifted to the source. This was really all they...

Ashes (and the Lack Thereof)

image

He was careful not to make a sound as he crept from the amber-streaked shadows of the tavern into early morning’s mottled grey. The ever-present give of damp earth lead him to the stables with ease, a familiar enough pathway winding through the ragged wooden gate, where the wet sound of his footsteps gradually faded into the straw beneath his feet. Silently, he tripped the latch and slipped inside.

The previous morning he’d risen early as ever, yawning and stretching into pre-dawn moments from another fitful night’s rest. River had been at his heels from the start, whining at the crack of the door well before the crack of drawn, and bounding about noisily enough to wake his neighbours. So he’d taken the lot of them, padding...

Ravasha the Liar?

When I finally broke away from the Lich King I decided to strike out on my own for about two years. I learned how to clean fairly well, how to make simple meals, how to arrange the meals or utensils fancy like. I as well learned that I enjoy being someone's thrall to some degree and it worried me.

Did that officer want me to enjoy my endless works for them because... he knew I enjoyed being a slave? Of course not to a bunch of hungry zombies and ghosts. No, I believe he was just trying to brainwash me.

When I returned to my family's home my mother Viviaria almost did not let me back inside. She told me that Scourge workers were not welcome in her house. I told her that I had my free will again and she relented.

My first boyfriend was a...

Baojun's Background

Our family structure is very rigid. Males occupy the warrior, chef and caligraphy arts. While females are homemakers, assassins, con artists and defenders of our territory on Shen-zin Su. Because I was exiled my father stopped speaking to me entirely. He was getting on in age anyways so I do not need him, right?

My mother still lives though she does not communicate with me either? Is she... ashamed of me or something? My grandmother who was a wizened old rogue died and was buried on our ancestral burial grounds.

Feeling cut off from everyone who knew you in your past breaks my heart. It is difficult to carry on when you have no true family or friends. So I resort to stealing, lying and conning when on the streets. If someone gave me a...

What Demons Fear?

I received a book by Master Raveintis about what do demonesses fear? They can be bound with seals not to lie, there are some materials they refuse to touch. And of course: Good old-fashioned manipulations and temptations, to which succubi and imps are especially prone to falling for. Sometimes if you tease enough they shall even follow you like lost puppies ah-ha.

They as well fear my teacher of 2 years: Selerra Sorrowsong. The Sorrowsong family has been known to be especially brutal in its deals with demonesses. They make ironclad contracts that are signed in blood. They despise demons who don't pull their own weight. And occasionally the girls of the family take on students. I was one such student before being forced to leave the...

Soft as Silk

Yesterday had been an absolute disaster. Bringing three six-year-old girls and a toddler boy to an egg hunt in Falconwing Square had been an idiotic idea, Melisande acknowledged. The cranky, tired tears of her charges and chocolate smears all over her person had been proof.

The youngest of the Heart of the Raven's wards had other ideas, however. “Oh Miss Melisande, can we go again? Please pleeeeease? It's the most fun I've ever had.”

They were in the newly-rejiggered bunk room where the children stayed now. All the others had flown off to their respective favorite places: the eldest to Naz’s smithy, the twins to Shade's house, the middle boy down to the kitchens to assist Mao, who could be relied upon for coppers, kindness,...

Just Write or Something

It’d been a busy day - Three early hours given to the tavern’s needs, two more for reading lessons. Melisande would be glad when they could all read properly and could move on to something more intellectually stimulating. It was now only a quarter to one, but she was, by all accounts, exhausted.

A late night at the Darkmoon Faire had ensured it. Not that she wouldn’t do it again, given the chance. There’d been a soft sprinkle of compliments, like a misty rain, and a few furtive touches that made her heart gallop a little too hard if she thought of them. He’d been…a little secretive, perhaps, but thoughtful. Always with something to say but never pushy about it. She liked that.

She smiled to herself briefly at the thought of...

Why I Like Warchief Sylvanas and Serving Scourge

She broke free from a tyrant and went on to occupy quite a nice bit of land... with her own city underneath, which I often visit for the Auction Houses. She wishes to give her kind the power of reproduction through the Val'kyr. Sylvanas is committed to the survival of her race, like all Sin'dorei I know, and that is why I approve of her induction as Warchief.

And because... remember that Scourge officer I mentioned? I served the Scourge for a time. As an enchantress for their plate wearing warriors, carving terrible curses into their armors to terrify and harm their enemies. And as a tailor for sewing together new robes for their casters. It was tireless work because they did not actually kill me like most. They felt that true...

Crazy Relatives and Honor Duels

When I spent times in Orgrimmar the orcs taught me about Mak'gora or honor duels. I had never heard of such a thing, as usually disputes where I came from were handled with words only. So my first honor duel was actually against... my crazy brother. A man who got everything he wanna from our parents and is still not happy. He challenged me because my mother died and bequeathed her home to me. He wanted that home and me kicked out.

We exchange blows, and bows beforehand, and he says he does not want to harm me. I do not want to harm him either. My legs are shaking and I can barely hold my fighting stance. No powers were allowed in the duel said the orcs watching us in the Huojin area of Orgrimmar.

I strike with my left fist and...

Time Is Up: Prologue

((The numbering between breaks show the order of events, but this is meant to be read straight through rather than back and forth. These events happened on Shadow Council in 2012, leading up to my "When Your Time Is Up" post.))

“Do you now, Rya?”

Gilithanas’ voice spoke clearly, harsh even. The sound of a gun locked into place came from the entrance of the club they were outside of. The first thing that came to Rya’s mind is, “Oops,” but you do not say such a thing in front of a lawyer with a gun pointed in your general direction. If Gil was aiming at herself or at Tiradell, she could not tell.

When Your Time Is Up

(( This post is from 2012. Moriurya had become the Lead Historian for Atlas Treasure Salvage, but was also on a self-imposed mission to keep detailed tabs of the goings ons of ATS and it's members. After a tense moment between her and a few of its members, Rya vindictively sought out someone to give this information to. ))

“Rya, can you hear me?”

The sound of the box echoed in the stone walls of The Aegis. My conversation had just started when Gilthånås’ voice came through the mechanical box on my hip. Why my ear piece was not in to start with was surprising to me. I looked to Tiradell, then picked up the box and spoke into it.

“Yes, I can.”
“Look … I need to talk to you. Where are you?”

I looked to Tiradell...

First Opportunity At Training

Braghaman walked through the center of Darkshire, his war hammer resting on his shoulder and occasionally scraping against the edge of his breastplate. Beside him, Marachius kept pace while his long sword, slung across his back, lightly tapped against his own armor.

“May I ask a question, commander?”

“Sure.”

“Why do you live here?”

“What do you mean?” Braghaman asked in response, glancing at the younger man.

“Well, you could live in Stormwind. Near the Cathedral. Why did you choose to live here?”

“These citizens need help as much as anyone else,” Braghaman answered with a shrug.

Making a New Friend

The puppy ran at Regynn, bolling her over in its exuberance. The priestess let out a startled shriek, rolling up to her knees and shaking her head as peals of laughter mingled with the dog’s excited barking. She brushed pink flower petals from her hair, turning and reaching out to stop the animal from licking her face.

“He likes you very much.” the Pandaren stood off to the side, her paws tucked neatly inside the sleeves of her robe, her voice as gentle as the breeze that sent blossoms fluttering to the ground.

Reggy looked up, her eyes bright, “I like him too.” she said as she rose to her feet, brushing grass from her pants. “Do you have more like him here?”

Telemancy.

The arcane discipline of teleportation. Joining two distant pin-points on a map together, by folding space, by travelling along ley-lines, by passing through the nether, through the aether. Instantaneously traveling tens, hundreds, thousands of miles, thousands of thousands.

It’s an exciting concept. One moment you’re here and then then next moment you’re there. You could be on another world, on another plane entirely. It’s convenient, it’s safe when performed by a veteran magus. People love it.

But, then there’s me.

I’ve had portal sickness from the day I first stepped through a portal. Long before I learned to master the arcane. Long before I made myself immune to magic. I’m sure my wards don’t help...

Perspectives

The conclusion of battle had always been the same. The weary brave had eventually returned home, eager to rest their bones within the comforts of their own beds, before falling back into a more local routines in wait to larger scaled duty designated by those looked upon as leaders. Whereas the fallen had either been transported back to their homelands to find eternal rest, or by some even graver tragedy, not at all; forever forged into the very bloodied earth in which they had fallen. Some sort of solemn remembrance hosted in its most formal fashion by the locals had always followed suit, followed by warmer, drink filled festivities in celebration to victories had been the usual, unchanging protocol once the dust had finally started to...

Finger on the (Im)pulse

And so she stayed. His borrowed room was dark by the time his pulse slowed and her feather-soft breaths evened out against his skin. There was no denying the warmth of her, curled up inside of his beneath the half-hearted cover of the quilt on which they lay.

The weight of her head on his arm felt like trust he had no business having, and yet there it was all the same. Had he meant for this to happen when he’d suggested they bring their late night meal upstairs? It wasn’t often he did anything without forethought, without a plan. Survival instincts honed over decades had never failed him before.

He sometimes thought that’s all he was. A series of instincts incarnate- to eat, to sleep, to live, to kill. To seek connection where...
