Of Missing Things

‘Those branches have been cut…recently. No tracks, but it certainly looks like the dirt has been disturbed, used to cover up something. Cigarette butts, lots of them…and someone who knew to use enough overlaying scents that even Savage can’t pick out what’s what. What the hell is going on…’

Amorthon frowned as he looked over the area before turning and moving back towards the sole structure in the area - a cabin. He huffed as he sat down on the porch, Savage easing down next to him. His day had started a bit later than he’d originally intended, but the focus of the day remained the same - to try and figure out who or what had been tracking him the day before.

Well, maybe not him, but rather who he was with. He knew well enough that he was simply another ranger, one of many…but Nyllae, her name meant something. Still, even with her status, he couldn’t figure out why someone would follow them out here.  He ran a hand over his face before reaching for his recently reobtained bag, one that had been left in the rush to leave the cabin the day before.

‘Knife is still there…wait, yeah, still there both the carving and the hunting knife. Carvings - still there, jerky? Also still there. What else - oh the letters are…' His frown deepened as he emptied out the bag, giving the contents a more thorough search. His orders were there, other miscellaneous contacts with other people were still there, but the letters from Nyllae? Those were gone. ‘What the hell?’

Simple correspondence - just letters about caring for Cibor and meetings…what good would those be to anyone? With a frustrated huff, the ranger started to shove everything back into the bag as he once again scanned the area again. Whoever had been there the day before had been knowledgeable enough to cover their tracks.

He’d come out to try and find answers but was left with nothing but more questions. He was missing something, he just couldn’t figure out what.
