Of Plans and Worries

image

He was being tracked. He’d thought it might happen, given the events of just a few weeks prior, but he’d seen enough and heard enough for his suspicion to be confirmed. It couldn’t have been in the form of a letter, or another sign or threat…no. They’d had him followed. Even if he hadn’t already been hypervigilant, Savage’s constant ear twitching and nervousness would have hinted that something was amiss.

The ranger sighed, tossing another small piece of wood onto the fire. “Savage, over here. Settle for a minute.” Amorthon waited for the tiger to approach before gently scratching behind the animal’s ear and then turning his attention back to the inside of his bag. Inside was a small bag, which the ranger was...

Of Missing Things

image

‘Those branches have been cut…recently. No tracks, but it certainly looks like the dirt has been disturbed, used to cover up something. Cigarette butts, lots of them…and someone who knew to use enough overlaying scents that even Savage can’t pick out what’s what. What the hell is going on…’

Amorthon frowned as he looked over the area before turning and moving back towards the sole structure in the area - a cabin. He huffed as he sat down on the porch, Savage easing down next to him. His day had started a bit later than he’d originally intended, but the focus of the day remained the same - to try and figure out who or what had been tracking him the day before.

Well, maybe not him, but rather who he was with. He...

Of Suspicion and Frustration

image

Starscythe…Starscythe…Oh, come ON. They’ve got to be in here somewhere.

The plan had been to simply return to the Retreat, gather his things, and leave. Maybe he’d ask a few questions, if anyone was present, about the whether or not any rangers with the last name ‘Starscythe’ had been the area recently. He’d gotten stuck on how to explain why he had that particular question. It wasn’t until he’d arrived, and started putting on his armor - as it was simply easier to wear it than to carry it - that he remembered the logs.

That had been hours ago, and still, there he stood, in full armor, flipping and scanning page after page. I’ve got to be getting close…wait - there they ar-

To Meddle with a Creature

There hadn’t been much to do with the Dreadful Howl since it docked for repairs but there had been plenty of time for being able to roam Boralus, see the areas, make connections, recruit and even branching out to contend with family business. Much of which, the family business Hale aimed to take back to Stormwind with her had been nestled in her pack that she took everywhere with her. When she hadn’t been keeping company or seeing to other duties much of her time was flicking through the book trying to make sense of the symbols and writing within that was most likely an area of expertise for her Aunt Elisia than herself. Portals were a common thing to some degree though none of the Crew were eager to leave the port…just yet.

Over...

Before You Leave

There is something in me that I cannot shake off. In short, I deny nothing, but doubt everything.

With resolve, Hale stepped forward to the twisted tree. While the tree itself held no familiarity in the strange woods, it was the very door to the tree that had given her worry. For a split second Hale wondered what hallucinations she might have been experiencing – perhaps a dream though she felt very awake. The shadow at her shoulder, Creature, he was silent now. Perhaps the most silent it had been in just about  two years and with his absence her mind was no longer a buzz with his murmurs.

The wooden handle of the door was cold when Hale touched it. Her heart skipped a beat and on the second prance of it she turned the knob and...

Uprooting the Past

image

Hale didn’t expect the trees to be crippled nor to carry that sly darkness along the blowing winds. It was as if though the land was alive with energy – magic to be precise. Hale had never felt such a connection to Azeroth, not even the little harvest blessings and rituals she and her sister did came close to the raw energy that coursed through her the moment she stepped off the small boat.

The hairs on her neck and arms prickled at the very kiss of the stale wind at her flesh. Part of her even thought she should have worn warmer clothing than she had originally brought.

The Priest ignored the sensation for a moment knowing it would be a matter of time before it passed. It was as if though she stepped into a painting laden with...

Path to Origin

image

The sea was a stranger to the land viper but it was the salt in the air that reminded her of the circles she and her sister would draw along the wooden floor boards at late hours into the night. The wax, smell of sulfur and the burned herbs were a familiar memory and one that was short lived when the crashing waves ceased. Boralus began to crest in the distance and the very cloudy overhang of the air welcomed the crew of the Dreadful Howl. Waves kissed at the belly of the ship and the horizon drew a long picture of muted seafoam green roofs and docks, gulls in the air and the bustle of voices just across the stretch of water.

She had been to Boralus once and only once in search of information before she had found herself along the...

Dreadful Howl - Eastern Kingdom Seaboard

image

Hale could charm the pants off the devil if there were ever such a thing. It was easy meeting new people and easier to impress at a first meet but keeping them interested or keeping them friendly was the hard part.

You made them uneasy.” the voice whispered into her ear and without looking, Hale could feel the shadowy presence of her familiar, even being upon the Dreadful Howl in the middle of the sea didn’t seem to change their connection. It was stronger than she remembered it.

“Have I now?” the Priest answered back in a low whisper while casting glances and nods to the deckhands here and there in passing.

She really hadn’t been on a ship for an extended period of time but there was a first for everything. With...

Anew

image

Doubt crept into her head but this was always going to be where she seen herself in the future and not how she got there. She couldn’t be within her own head, at least not now. Roiling pain filled every fiber of her being and blackened her veins. Hale could barely feel the small, cold vial that has stopped moving between her finger tips.

For a long time she was the one that created goods for those around her that brought others to their knees and meeting makers but she had never thought she would try the toxins for herself.

Slowly she blinked and the chilled moisture clung to the far corners of her eyes while her murky void laden eyes stared at the ceiling above her. Her stomach lurched again but it was not from the Skyflare toxin...

To be Remade

“You seen it didn’t you?”
“See what?”
“Them. How they were?”
“Of course I did, how could I not?”
“Are you angry?”

“No….she seems happy though she is different for it, I am glad she is in her own corner of the world where she can be herself and no one but herself.”

“There is no space for you there now. There is no space for you anywhere. Was that not evident enough with your little doggie friends?”

“What friends?”

Hale slowly blinked as she stared out over the water. She could feel the hissing voice at her ear and the looming coldness of the ever-present shadow that lingered. She traded a lot for the sake of tasting clairvoyance and power. A sliver of her sanity was coupled into the deal. Her headaches...

Truce?

image

“I said I was sorry…you could stop glaring at me.” He sighed as Savage flopped down in front of him, the glare continuing despite Cibor taking the opportunity to climb all over the larger tiger. “…Or not, that’s fine too…”

The return to Silvermoon hadn’t been as awful as he’d originally thought it was going to be. There hadn’t been quite as many jarring motions, though he could honestly say that it wouldn’t hurt people to maybe look up every once in a while. The number of side-steps he’d made to avoid having someone plow into his shoulder had been a bit frustrating…to say the least. Unfortunately, it was just as he’d made the final turn towards Andivia’s apartment complex that he’d missed another...

Not Today

5a9c338dbe2ad.jpg

Quiet filled the workshop. Tools were put away, scraps of wood set aside, as Amorthon inspected the piece in front of him critically. With a heavy sigh he ran his hand across the headboard, the horse carved there, and then along the leg of the crib he'd been inspecting, checking for imperfections before grabbing padding to wrap around the uncovered leg.  The carriage would be by later in the day to pick up the piece, and within a week or so it would arrive in Darkwood Village. What happened after that, well that was up to his brother and, what was her name? Lorilin?

He grit his teeth as he tightened the rope around the leg and the padding before straightening up and brushing his hands together. He gave the headboard one more...
