Quris sits in his cell thinking of the plan him and his youngest son have sprung into place. He takes one last look at his surroundings before the guard comes to lead him to the courthouse. He rises and waits for the guard to attach the shackles to his hands and feet and is led quickly to the double doors that lead into the courthouse.
Once there he takes one cursory glance around the room, noting where everyone is standing and finally his eyes settle on two people in the back. Of course, he thought. That weak boy Haveth has done it again. He always did have a soft spot for that wretch and of course he would try and protect her, then his eyes settle directly on Velinthria. She was dressed in the colors of the Argents, another betrayal, and her eyes showed the fear he was trying to instill in her. Soon her time would come, and even if Haveth wouldn’t be a part of it, soon Aeriaen would help him exact his revenge.
After scanning the room Quris grinned to himself and readied himself for what he knew was about to happen. He felt his good son emerging from the doorway and Quris took out the pick that Aeriaen had given to him and unlocked the shackles on his wrists as soon as he saw the smoke billowing all around him, and as soon as the guard ran off to try and find the source of the smoke he felt Aer unlock the cuffs on his legs. He knew he didn’t have long to try and grab her, and he would have others in the way but Quris was determined to grab his wench of a daughter.
But then, after searching around for nearly a minute he gave up on his search. His pathetic, weak son must have grabbed her and led her away. He was going to pay for his disobedience and whatever the cost he would find the both of them and teach them a lesson for their treachery. He had searched for years for this “holy” daughter of his. He mused at the fact that even though she claimed to be this good person and her only desire is to help people, she was being a hypocrite and one day he knew that she would realize this and give up her running and that is exactly when he would strike.
